This is my first post to your website. Well said and I agree with you on every statement. Keep up the great posts.

I’m a tech at Walmart, and when you posted your last video, I broke the rules to whip out my phone and play it for my pharmacist. We split the headphones so we both could watch/listen. I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard, and my poor pharmacist…I’ve never heard him laugh like that, ever! I even had our other pharmacist, who is more the angelic innocent type, listen and she was cracking up.

This one too…so true! People are so quick to scream at pharmacists about anything and everything. No one ever wants to take some personal responsibility. Then they complain when you vent on your own personal website? Pfft! To hell with them.

As always, you ROCK!

Comment by Santa Paula Pharmer on 2010-08-25 23:12:26 -0700 #

My staff pharmacist just turned me on to your excellent site. I have already forwarded your URL to many of my pharmacist friends. Just last week, two different customers said to me “how do you put up with all the crap without wanting to scream?” Being able to vent here helps. Terrific rants. Keep them coming. All of us in this business need it to retain a shred of sanity.

Holy Crapola! That was amazing… You’ve reached into my deep cracked soul and pulled out everything I think! I think I hear the sound of angels singing… ha!

Just a suggestion that you could comment on these 7 tablet freebee
coupons, you know, the kind where the bottle only comes in unit of
use bottles of 30 or the Dr (or idiot prescriber anymore) wants to try a
few -at our expense, or worse yet -til their mail order arrives.

Amen. I have been practicing for almost 20 years and this week is the first time I am ready to quit and/or go ape shit on a co-worker’s wife. I transferred all of her, her husband’s and her father’s meds from CVS last January. Bend over backwards to help her w/assistance programs b/c her insurance sucks and her husband is only part-time and doesn’t have our good insurance. This fucking bitch gets her panties in a twist when she wants to know why her dad’s blood glucose level isn’t going down with the meds I dispense. I ask, “what does he eat? Is his food portioned out? Is he exercising? She files a complaint against me at the store level- store manager apologizes, realizes she is full of shit. She goes to the corporate level – my pharmacy supervisor apologizes, but tells her that he stands behind me, I am one of the best managers, I have an excellent record of customer service etc. She FUCKING files a complaint of unprofessional conduct with the State Board of Pharmacy!!!!! I have to go through an investigation because she is an unhappy, poor, crazy, psychotic bitch! I know that retail sucks – I have been doing this for 20 years. I honestly love what I do. I am proud of my career choice. What I am sick of, is having to put up with someone who is able to “stalk” you simply because she has a bug up her ass. I truly hope she ods on her hydromorphone.

Comment by kdog909 on 2010-08-26 19:10:48 -0700 #

Awesome, simply amazing stuff as usual. You are my hero, TAP.

One quick comment though. For people who get their Rx’s filled at another pharmacy and then use you as their “information booth”… when people try to pull that crap at our store, we simply tell them “For liability reasons, we cannot give out medical advice concerning prescriptions that were not filled at our pharmacy.” This is total BS of course, but most people just say “OK” and leave or hang up the phone. You should try it next time!

Comment by CH on 2010-08-26 21:52:47 -0700 #

For some reason, having a cute little cartoon bear go on a rant makes it that much more entertaining. If it’s any consolation, I’m always nice to the pharmacy staff when I get my medication filled. Sometimes I’m behind some crazy indian man screaming about the price of his meds and how “this is ridiculous”. Then I make sure to be extra nice. I can’t imagine dealing with people like that all day every day.

Comment by Hawker on 2010-08-27 12:44:00 -0700 #

How about the patient that brings in new vouchers for the free 3 day supply over and over and then gets mad at us because you can only use per year or lifetime. Then asks “if I can’t use it why does the doctor keep giving me the vouchers?”

Comment by AngryChainRX on 2010-08-27 21:00:55 -0700 #

How about the patient that brings vouchers for the same medication every month “usually the Levitra ones” and gets mad at us because he can’t use them because he used the voucher on the original script.

I’ve been in pharmacy for 12 years and know exactly where you’re coming from. I don’t think you’re a bad person at all. You have just found a venue for you to vent all the pent up rage. Kudos! You crack me up!

I think it’s time to get out of retail though :/ Life is far too short to put up with this bullshit.

Big Hugs!!

Maybe she’ll catch an awful cold and need an Rx for Hydromet, then take it with her Dilaudid and of course she’ll need to take some Norco for her breakthrough pain….

Man, how good would it have felt to tell her it’s not your fault her dad is a fat fuck that needs to take walks longer than to the bathroom or the fridge?! We can dream 🙂

Stay strong!

Hysterical! You and I have similar frustrations.

I’d rather slide down a razor blade than hear one more time about how some poor soul lost their lortab script …

However, keep in mind the fact that we are the one’s that get to wipe the shit off the asses of the patients that your nose finds offensive!

One time I had a morbidly obese patient leave the ED and present to your pharmacy to retrieve her script for a topical med to treat her scabies and then return to my room to have **me** apply the med. Copiously. From head-to-toe. Life isn’t fair!

I am not a Pharmacist, but I come from a long line of them. My brother and sister are both Pharmacists. My mother was, my grandfather and my great-grandfather and his two brothers were all in the profession. I was brought up in the back room of my parents Pharmacy. I have heard the horror stories from everyone from my grandfather on down. Maybe that’s why I didn’t join the family business. I, instead, have been working in other retail venues for the last 20 years. My sister and I call each other and share horror stories of crazy customers. This video (and website) says it all! Thank you on behalf of my family!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for voicing the things I dream about saying on a daily basis. Your website has helped me cling to what’s left of my sanity. Just today I had a doctor phone (just, the actual doctor) in asking if we carried “Doans”. I said yes, they were over the counter. The patient showed up. Apparently when she mentioned “Doan’s” to her physician she meant “Methadone” and had the nerve to rip me a new one because I couldn’t call for a script. Sigh … thank God for you and Jack!

WOW!! There are just alot of angry, bitter pharmacists out there. I love my job, and yes I deal with the same ass-holes as everyone else, but how I react to them and how I allow them to influence me is MY CHOICE. No one can MAKE be have a bad day or MAKE me bitter. Re-think why you are in this position and if you’re that unhappy then do everyone a favor and get out of the game!

Comment by JennyS on 2010-09-09 17:28:31 -0700 #

Wow, I was having the worst day and on top of that I have to study for my stupid Pharmacy Admin test that is tomorrow. So I type into google “I hate pharmacy school” and up pops your blog. Well, now that I’ve had a good laugh, I feel much better and feel like I might actually be able to pick up my notes and study some more. So Thanks Angry Pharmacist! I will definitely be back.

Comment by Robocopp on 2010-09-09 20:04:10 -0700 #

How true….I got so sick and frustrated being with retail pharmacy for years because of all these nasty “Vicodin & Oxycontin” junkies with their constant complaining that I moved over to Mail-Order Pharmacy. I am much happier and relaxed now. But we must spread this word around, though I would prefer it be without explicit’s so that we could share with a broader audience!!!

Comment by Southerngirl on 2010-09-10 21:52:50 -0700 #

If you have made 20 years without losing it, you are a SAINT and any pharmacy manager would be an idiot to chastise you. As for your State Board, I have been practicing for 30 years and I have watched my state’s Board of Pharmacy become our worst nightmare. They are actively searching for infractions. I used to think of my State Board as a courteous partner that expected high standards of me bur respected my contribution to our profession. Not anymore.

The worst is when they transfer their Norco’s and Soma’s and bring in two competitor coupons but they have state MEDICAID. Don’t they understand that I’m already PAYING for their medication by working. I’m not (and thank God someone higher up stands behind me) giving you $25 on top of the money I work hard for the government takes from me to give to you and your fake shitty medical issues. I’m already busting my ass for ungrateful bitchy patients that are mad that their insurance won’t pay for their meds 15 days early (oh,you forgot to tell me you were going on vaca because you called it in overnight for a refill), so now it’s my fault. Ugh!

I just wanna say that I’ve been a pharmacy technician at a long term care pharmacy for nine years. I love my job. But you couldn’t pay me to do what you do. I talk to people on the phone. I wouldn’t want to deal with them in person. I’ve seen how people treat pharmacists in the retail side. Kudos to you and all pharmacists.

Comment by Redact on 2010-09-19 21:50:02 -0700 #

On a completely unrelated note, I would like to ask your opinion on something. What do you think a PBM’s member facing website should do? What are areas they should cover that would reduce costs/pain/stupid questions/anger/time for someone in your field? An IQ test is probably not feasible, nor is a BMI test. Of course getting a member to actually vist the website before visiting the pharmacy is another topic, but _if_ they did, what information should it provide the member in preparation for their vist?

Thanks, and nice video.

These same people will soon be in the nursing home where I work, along with their insane families. All have a sense of entitlement and expect to be waited on hand and foot, and all want drugs for every little perceived ailment. A geezer asked me for something for his sneezing last night, expecting me to produce a drug, so I handed him a box of kleenex. So tired of FOP and their whining, and their relatives who refuse to let them die in peace.

Comment by G. S. Jaworski on 2011-04-22 21:07:46 -0700 #

I worked 30 years in a hospital, 5 years in retail way back in the 70’s and then tried retail again about 3 years ago. I quit after almost 2 years b/c it was killing me. You are so right. I found this website and read it to relieve the stress. I asked my younger pharmacist if she read it and she said, “I don’t read things like that!”….well, obviously she was ON something in order to be able to work for the chain that we did and answer the dang phone EACH and EVERY time it rang. I studied my tail off to become a pharmacist and gave up all my free time to study. It was not to work like a dawg having to put up not only with rude patients, but also rude techs that had no respect for a pharmacist’s responsibility. In the end, it was my license that was on the line every day, not theirs. A little cooperation would help, esp. when you ask nicely as in Please and THank You! And you are right about the bathroom time…there is NONE and where I worked they reeked anyway! I would say, “THIS IS NOT PHARMACY!”….but sadly, this is retail pharmacy today, very different from when I started out! Love your rants!

I see Pharmacy han’t changed since the ’60’s. That’s why I changed professions. That and the movement of mom & pop stores to corporate chains. You must be the son of the Malbroug man who’d rather fight than switch. I wish you well. But if the countries teachers are unable to educated and dicipline the unwashed masses, there’s not much chance any other profession will. Perhaps if the government quit enabeling them (for votes) we’d get somewhere.

The Angry Pharmacist
Started this site in 2005 out of frustration that pharmacy school does not prepare you for dealing with the ungrateful unwashed public. Was hugely popular until life called and I had to take a break. Now I try to provide low brow potty humor that applies to the pharmacy population at large. Except you clinical fucks, go play doctor with your white coats and snobby attitude.
