Bottom of the Barrel
“You shut your whore mouth TAP.”
— Happiness, Discord Mom, Pharmacy Discord Server 4/2026
Before I get into this profanity laden rant, I just want to plug something that I recently joined and really is a benefit for all of pharmacy.
I present to you……
The great Pharmacy Discord Server!
Now if you don’t know what Discord is, you’re probably old like I am, or not tech savvy, so this wont apply to you.
HOWEVER if you are a pharmacist/pharmacy student, this server provides a huge benefit (that I wish I had when I was in school). They give presentations on guidelines by residents, post case studies for the students to figure out, and are just a good time. Plus you get to hang out with other pharmacist and swap memes, dick/butt jokes, and general debauchery. We get on voice chat at night and bitch about Ozempic, GLP1s and other frustrations in retail/clinical/etc. Plus I’m there, and you get to bullshit with yours truly, in real time, for free!
In true 1990’s internet fashion (because they call me old there), greetz to Plum, Goose, Crims0n5, El-O-Wheeze, Suli, Dogmentin, AsianAzze, Happiness (my biggest fan and linkedin troll) and the rest of the Discord crew. Yeah its been 2 years, quit blowing me shit you all.

So this rant was brought to you by what I read in the Discord, because it pissed me off.
So while sitting on the discord, a student kindly proclaimed that a faculty at a pharmacy school that rhymes with Buffalo, dissuaded them from going into retail. That they should go to residency. In fact this faculty (from what I gathered) sorta shit on retail pharmacists like we’re some bottom of the barrel fall-back-chick of pharmacy.
Now if that isn’t an APhA sponsored option if I have ever fucking heard one, I dont know what is.
Listen, retail is hard. Really hard. However retail is the absolute foundation of pharmacy and has been since pharmacy has been conceived.
Who in the fuck does this dickhead think he is to imply that retail is a place where pharmacists go when they aren’t smart enough for a residency? That APhA opinion is absolute bullshit. Lets explore why:
- We deal with absolutely limited information to do our jobs. We dont have the luxury of labs, chart notes, or anything short of a fucking crystal ball to know what the doctor wants. We have to determine what the doctor is treating by just the drugs. Nothing more or nothing less. ICD10 codes are a fucking luxury for us.
- With the clinical peeps, once the discharge happens they are done. Job complete. Us retail folk our job is never done, we take care of the patients for years.
- We are the most accessible healthcare professional. We dont take appointments. Patients can just walk in and scream at us about shit that we have no control over. Literally the below list is shit we have no control over.
- Doctor didn’t approve your refills. Yell at us.
- Drug not covered? Yell at us.
- Copay is too high? Yell at us.
- Deductible or doughnut hole/coverage gap got you down? Oh it must be retail’s fault, we set the copay’s (obviously).
- Insulin pens not working? Blood glucose machine not working? CGM fell off? Oh wait its our fault.
Not only is this this idiot giving a slap in the face to the absolute foundation of pharmacy, but teaching students this? Does this tool think that every student is going to land a residency? Seriously? How many fucking match spots do they think are open every year? So they fill their students with fairy-tail dreams of wearing a white coat, rounding with doctors, only to kick them out after graduation (after the student loan check clears) to have them face the brutal reality at an overnight shift at a CVS in the shit part of town. What kind of bullshit education is that?
Nobody should shit on retail. Nobody.
PS: Plum, hang in there <3
